Do I Need To Use AG pipe behind my retainer wall?

I have almost finished building my treated timber retaining wall and was wonder if it vital that I put ag pipe behind the retaining wall?
I was going to backfill with stone and left over stone blend and been told I will not need ag pipe as the stone will help drainage.

Is this info correct?

I would not use any sand blend mix as 20mm crushed rock with fines through it will l pack down, 20mm agregate is better as it's clean.

What height is your retainer wall?
If it's fairly high I suggest use some ag pipe it's rather cheap and could save you some headaches later down the track.

The wall is approx 1mt in height.
Ok I'll use the 20mm stone and look into the pipe.

I'd use pipe for sure at that height ,Just have the aggregate up at least to 3/4 the wall height so that the water hits the stone and runss straight down to the pipe, instead of pooling and creating waterlogged soil
Just make sure whatever pipe you put in, that it has fall towards the outlet otherwise it's a waste of time and money.
