Hello all !

My neighbour and I are going to attempt to erect a post and rail fence with colorbond sheets attached dividing our properties.
We would like to call in a contractor but none of us can afford one, and we think between the pair of us we might manage to erect the fence.

We managed to pick up some sheeting cheap from a builder as a client changed their minds about colours.
But we still require posts and rails, we already have the capping for sheets.

My question is what size steel do we require for posts?
What size hole is needed for footings?

Help please,
Pete

My question is what size steel do we require for posts?

I help you with this answer: Use 50x50 box section that is at least 1.6mm thick.

Hi Pete
As suggested use 1.6mm to 2mm dura gal posts will be ample.
It's suggested to use 65x65 for gate posts but you can get away with 50x50mm in 2mm. If the gate is only small 50x50 in 1.6mm will be fine.

Make sure you slope the concete away from the post and that the concrete is slighly higher then the soil level. This area is the first place that the fence will corrode, it is very important to do it correctly.

Fenced Out , would Pete be best to buy the posts individually or buy lengths of steel and cut them himself?
