I have a problem tree that will just not die can some one please tell me a fool proof method of killing a tree?

Will drilling holes in the trees root and filling them up with round up work?

Hi Tex
Try " 'Tree and Blackberry killer" which is available from your nursery.
It comes in small glass jars and works a treat!

When I have had a trees cut down on our property I found the best way to kill trees was to paint the top of the stump with a generous coat of glysophate, especially the outer ring of bark.
This will stop the tree growing back.

A chainsaw works well , but if it's a neighbours tree that might be a bit of a problem.lol

I had a friend ask me how to kill a tree that he and his neighbor share. His neighbor is unwilling to cut it down. I really don't want to know the details, because I think its bad karma to help someone kill a tree!
But for my own curiosity...what do you guys think?
Is there a way to kill a tree, without just cutting it down or a sudden death?

If it is on the property line cut all the roots and branches which go onto your property. That may be enough and it should be legal.
I had this very same issue myself a few years ago.
The tree was actually on an easement and the rear neighbour claimed the easement even though the council owned it. After a visit by the council , my neighbour cried to the greens and stated the tree provided bird life and I was to dig in root barrier around my pool to stop damage.
But this was not the total problem as the tree losts it's leaves yearly and constantly filled my swimming pool.
End of the day the fig like tree was to remain on the easement due to the greens and I just had to grin and bare it.
I just dug around the roots and poured 5 kilo of pool salt in the ground. It checked out in about 3 weeks.

Oh you need to be carefull if you use other methods as often they will test the tree to see what caused the death. This could end in a nasty legal battle so I suggest be smart about it. I used salt as my pool was salt water and it's possible the salt water splashing might have killed the tree or the roots penetrated the pool water.

Another good method is a Copper nail, so I'm told.

What do copper nails do? Aside from the obvious, killing the tree - whats the reaction?
And how long does it take?

I understand copper takes about a year or two to poison the tree, but it makes it look like a natural death.

To kill a tree, Drill a small hole deep into tree, push small pipe into hole and put the other end in a bucket of diesel. Capillary action will draw the diesel into the tree and kill it fairly quickly. Totally untraceable. Don`t ask me how I know!

Girdling the bark will kill it.....cut 2 parallel lines around the circumference an inch or two apart and remove the bark between them

We once had a tree root problem doing damage to house footings and we were advised by an engineer to to construct a vertical cut-off wall a minimum of one metre from the footings. Luckily there is a product on the market called Root Barrier
We did consider removing the tree but after looking into we thought we would try Root Barrier.
Trees which in the past had to be removed because of their damaging effect on foundations, can now remain and exist quite happily along-side of the buildings, without causing any problems underground.
Root Barrier keeps the roots out and the moisture in.
It's now been 4yrs and we have not had a single root problem since installing the root barrier.

It's a shame to remove a tree , if possible check out if Root Barrier would be an option for you.
I have attached the installation guide.

I cut down a couple of nuisance trees in my garden a few months ago. The stumps keep growing back. I'm told full strength Round Up or use plain old salt poured into holes drilled in offending stump.
Does anyone have any good tips or links?

Cut the stump off again and apply Round up to the cambium layer (just inside the bark) within 2 hours.

A drill can be good here and you can use full strength round up.

Drill hole add poison and pop back in a plug. Chances are no one will notice and fewer will test for roundup. But if its a neighbours think long and hard about creating an enemy next door, in the end it may not be worth the effort if another gets planted in its place.

2ND stupid option Ringbark the tree and then complain to the greenies about the rabbits

One way of effectively killing a tree stump is to use diesel. Simply drill some holes through the middle of the tree stump that you want to learn how to kill and then pour a sufficient amount of diesel down these holes. Use your common sense to measure how much diesel you think the tree stump will need to actually successfully kill it.

I have a very large tree in my garden I'm not sure of the type but it is big and ugly - the stump is about 1meter wide. It blocks out the light, roots have damaged drains, and abranch snapped off recently which damaged my neighbor’s garden. Somelarge branches overhand a public footpath and I don't want to killanyone! I've decided it needs to go but my wife is not so sure. Iwould like to find a way of killing the tree so it can then be chappeddown. It would be best the method was undetectable and quick

Best method is getting an arborist's report and getting council approval, totally undetectible.
